Emerson, a leading industrial technology and automation solutions company, has introduced DeltaV Edge Environment 2.0, the latest version of Emerson’s edge technology. It helps users improve batch consistency, quality, and innovation in life sciences and other batch processing industries.

DeltaV Edge Environment 2.0 is designed to make OT applications and control data accessible across the entire organization. With the update it now also supports batch data integration. This enables companies in batch processing industries such as the pharmaceutical and chemical industry to use critical data for analytics, AI and machine learning projects, and enterprise IT systems. This can be done both locally and in the cloud, which is important for efficient batch processes.

Batch Process Data Exchange

Batch processes often require seamless data exchange to enable data merging and validation. This exchange is very important to provide the right information to different users and processes within the organization. Integrating different systems is important for making strategic decisions, but with traditional technologies this is often too complex, expensive and risky.

DeltaV Edge Environment 2.0 offers a solution by transparently connecting operational technology (OT) control systems and IT applications. Through a one-way output of data – in the form of a secure, read-only copy of DeltaV Distributed Control System data – teams can use extensive control data at the edge or in the corporate cloud. With this information it becomes possible to compare batch data with process values. This allows performance deviations during batch runs to be identified more quickly so that process parameters of expensive batches can be adjusted in time to meet the expected specifications. This makes batch processes much more reliable.

DeltaV DCS System Integration

DeltaV Edge Environment 2.0 integrates with the existing DeltaV DCS system topology to provide insight into the impact of configuration changes on batch execution. In addition, process operator teams can link batch-related alarms and events to other system notifications to more quickly and effectively identify the root cause of production issues.

“The pharmaceutical industry relies heavily on data availability to optimize and validate production processes. Emerson’s Boundless Automation vision—eliminating data silos—gives multidisciplinary teams the tools to make more informed decisions and gain a competitive advantage,” said Claudio Fayad, vice president of technology for Emerson’s Process Systems and Solutions division. “With DeltaV Edge Environment 2.0, Emerson not only provides unprecedented data mobility, but also preserves essential batch and process context, improving operational certainty.”
