Lonza expands HPAPI manufacturing capacity in Visp, Switzerland

3 juli 2026
Lonza announced plans to expand its payload-linker manufacturing capacity and further develop its drug-linker operations at its Visp, Switzerland, site. The investment will add commercial-scale manufacturing capabilities for highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients (HPAPIs) and payload-linker molecules used in antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs).

ADCs continue to be a growing area within the pharmaceutical industry, increasing demand for payload-linkers that often require specialized synthesis and purification processes. As these molecules become more structurally complex, manufacturers are investing in facilities and technologies designed to support their production.
The expansion will add manufacturing capacity within an existing GMP facility, including additional production and purification capabilities for payload-linkers, as well as dedicated analytical and process development laboratories. The multipurpose facility is designed to support a range of payload-linker molecules and can be expanded further with additional manufacturing suites if required.
The new capacity will be integrated with Lonza's existing ADC manufacturing network in Visp, which includes monoclonal antibody manufacturing, conjugation, and drug product (DP) manufacturing capabilities in Visp and Stein, Switzerland. Additional quality control (QC) capabilities for highly potent payload-linker molecules are also part of the broader manufacturing network. The expanded facility is expected to become operational in 2028 and will support both clinical and commercial manufacturing programs.
