The 2024 Fall Venture Challenge winner was announced at the Dutch Life Sciences Conference on 12 December and the honor went to Sniper Therapeutics! This pioneering company is breaking new ground in T-cell-based therapies, focusing on Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG)—a highly aggressive and currently incurable pediatric brain tumor.

The jury, composed of Carine van den Brink, Geert-Jan Mulder, Ronald van der Geest, Christopher Allen, and Martijn Hackman, praised the exceptional quality of all the participating teams' pitches. However, Sniper Therapeutics stood out for its compelling presentation and insightful responses during the Q&A session.

Addressing a Critical Need in Cancer Therapy

Sniper Therapeutics is tackling one of the toughest challenges in oncology: the limited ability of many T cells to accurately target and destroy tumor cells. Their solution? A revolutionary approach using novel biomarkers to enhance T-cell tumor-killing precision. These innovative ‘Sniper’ T-cell therapies represent a new frontier in the treatment of solid tumors.

The company's initial focus is on DMG, but their vision extends to combating a broader range of solid tumors. With robust scientific foundations, two proprietary technologies, and a leadership team featuring Amber Wezenaar, Dr. Anne Rios, and Saharla Ahmed, Sniper Therapeutics is poised to drive transformative change in cancer treatment.

Originating from the Dream3DLab led by Dr. Anne Rios at the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology in Utrecht, and supported by the Oncode Institute, Sniper Therapeutics is building on a strong network of scientific and clinical expertise.

"At Sniper Therapeutics, we are dedicated to helping cancer patients achieve the impossible. Winning the Venture Challenge has brought us closer to our goal of developing best-in-class engineered T-cell therapies," said Amber Wezenaar, co-founder of Sniper Therapeutics.

A Milestone Achievement
